Canadian Railway Services (CRWS) a fast growing engineering firm focused on rolling stock system design, integration, reburbishment, testing and lifecycle support  has an opening for a Mechanical System Engineer at their new shop in Squamish, BC.

The Perfect Candidate: 

  • 3–7 years of experience in mechanical engineering, systems engineering, or transportation-related projects.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Exposure to rolling stock systems or complex mechanical assemblies is an asset.
  • Familiarity with railway standards and regulatory environments (APTA, AAR, EN, UIC, Transport Canada) is an asset.
  • Proficiency with CAD tools and engineering documentation practices.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment with multiple stakeholders.

This role requires strong technical fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic, deadline-driven environment.

Responsibilities Include: 

As a  Mechanical System Engineer, you will support the definition, integration, testing, and support of mechanical and onboard systems for passenger and freight rolling stock projects. You’ll work closely with senior system engineers and multidisciplinary teams across all phases of the project lifecycle, from concept development and design to manufacturing support, in-service troubleshooting, and refurbishment.

  • Support the development of system-level requirements, interfaces, and performance criteria for mechanical and onboard systems (HVAC, braking, pneumatics, mechanical interfaces, communications).
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and designers to align design outputs with system requirements.
  • Support coordination of cross-disciplinary system interfaces with mechanical, electrical, structural, and software engineering teams.
  • Assist with functional performance analysis and system-level risk assessments (e.g., FMEA, hazard analysis).
  • Prepare and maintain system documentation, including interface control documents (ICDs), system descriptions, and technical notes.
  • Review supplier documentation and component data under guidance of senior engineers.
  • Participate in testing, commissioning, troubleshooting, and validation of vehicles and systems.
  • Support development of verification and validation plans, test procedures, and certification-related documentation.

This role operates in a delivery-driven rail environment where coordination is complex and responsiveness is critical. You will be expected to manage multiple priorities and support sound technical decisions under schedule pressure, without compromising safety, quality, or compliance.
