The Perfect Candidate: 

This role operates in a fast-paced, delivery-driven rail environment where timelines are tight and coordination is critical. The successful candidate is comfortable working close to production, resolving issues in real time, and improving methods, without compromising safety, quality, or compliance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Industrial Engineering (or equivalent) required.
  • 5–10 years of experience in manufacturing or industrialization engineering, preferably in rail, transportation, or heavy industrial environments.
  • Strong understanding of fabrication, assembly, welding, and industrial processes.
  • Experience supporting shop-floor execution and resolving production issues.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Familiarity with quality systems, inspection requirements, and regulated environments.
  • Experience with tooling, jigs, fixtures, and process optimization.
  • Comfortable working in a schedule-driven, fast-paced production environment.
  • Clear communicator between engineering and operations teams.
  • Structured problem-solver with a continuous improvement mindset.
  • Able to manage multiple priorities and shifting production needs.
  • Calm and effective under time pressure with a strong sense of ownership and accountability.
  • Open to occasional travel to client or project sites.

Responsibilities Include: 

The Site Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for translating engineering designs into efficient, safe, and repeatable manufacturing and refurbishment processes.  This role bridges engineering, shop operations, quality, and project teams to ensure work is executed efficiently, consistently, and in compliance with technical and regulatory requirements.

  • Define work instructions, routings, and process steps for shop execution.
  • Translate engineering drawings into clear, buildable shop documentation.
  • Develop manufacturing, assembly, and refurbishment methods for rolling stock and components.
  • Coordinate with design, systems, and structural engineers to ensure manufacturability.
  • Define tooling, fixtures, jigs, and equipment requirements.
  • Support industrialization of new products, modifications, and refurbishment programs.
  • Work directly with shop teams to validate methods and resolve production issues.
  • Identify and eliminate inefficiencies, rework drivers, and bottlenecks.
  • Support first-article builds, pilots, and process validation.
  • Support design-for-manufacturing (DFM) and design-for-assembly (DFA) initiatives.
  • Ensure processes comply with quality requirements, WPS, inspection plans, and standards.
  • Support non-conformance resolution and corrective actions.
  • Support production planning, sequencing, and capacity considerations.
  • Contribute to cost estimates, labour hours, and productivity assumptions.
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to safety, quality, and efficiency.
  • Standardize methods and capture best practices for repeat programs.
  • Create and maintain manufacturing documentation, work instructions, and process standards.
  • Support training of shop personnel on new or revised methods.
  • Ensure documentation remains current and aligned with engineering changes.
