The position of General Manager who will oversee operations at a new rail services shop in Squamish is an an excellent career opportunity for a strong leader with expertise in engineering, transportation or mechanics. Offering an excellent salary in the range of $150,000 to $180,000 plus excellent benefits.

- Starting Salary: in the range of $150,000 – $180,000 (negotiable).

The Perfect Candidate :
The successful candidate is a hands-on leader with strong operational judgment, comfortable balancing execution pressure with safety, quality, and financial discipline.
- 10–15+ years of progressive leadership experience in operations, manufacturing, construction, or rail/transportation environments.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business, Operations Management, or a related field. Advanced degree or executive training is an asset.
- Experience in safety-critical, regulated industries (rail, transportation, industrial) strongly preferred.
- Proven experience leading multi-disciplinary teams and complex operations.
- Strong understanding of project delivery, cost control, and operational KPIs.
- Ability to balance strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Strong leadership presence and decision-making capability.
- Calm, structured, and decisive under pressure.
- Clear, direct communicator with all levels of the organization.
- Results-driven with a high level of accountability and ownership.
Responsibilities Include:
The General Manager is responsible for the overall operational performance, execution, and day-to-day leadership of the business. This role operates in a fast-paced, delivery-driven rail environment where timelines are tight, coordination is complex, and decisions must be made quickly and decisively.
- Oversee operations, projects, people, and resources to ensure safe, efficient, and profitable delivery of rail and industrial projects in alignment with company strategy.
- Ensure projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within scope, and within budget.
- Translate strategic objectives into executable operational plans.
- Monitor operational performance and take corrective action as needed.
- Lead and manage department heads, supervisors, and key operational roles.
- Foster a culture of accountability, safety, discipline, and teamwork.
- Support recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and talent development.
- Address performance issues promptly and constructively.
- Manage operational budgets, cost control, and resource utilization.
- Track KPIs related to productivity, margins, utilization, and delivery performance.
- Support forecasting, capacity planning, and operational scaling.
- Identify efficiency improvements and cost-saving opportunities.
- Ensure full compliance with safety regulations, internal policies, and rail standards.
- Ensure quality systems and controls are followed consistently.
- Support audits, inspections, and regulatory interactions as required.
- Provide executive oversight on key projects and strategic clients.
- Maintain strong relationships with clients, partners, Engineering, PMO, Finance, HR, and Business Development.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and operational maturity.
