Opportunity for skilled mechanics to expand their experience and training.

We have a couple of openings available for Industrial Mechanics / Millwrights at a new rail services shop that is now in full operation in Squamish.  This is an exciting opportunity to work on high-impact rail and rolling stock projects such as the Rocky Mountaineer.   The Industrial Mechanic is responsible for the inspection, maintenance, repair, overhaul, and troubleshooting of railcars and related mechanical systems.  This is an excellent opportunity for a wide range of candidates – from those with Red Seal to seasoned Millwrights who want to expand their experience and training.

About the Role:

  • Full-time, Permanent in Squamish BC.
  • Schedule:  40 hours/week working 4 x 10 hour shifts
  • Starting Wage:  $45-$50/hr based on experience *negotiable with Red Seal 
  • Occasional travel to depots, yards, or client sites may be required.

The Perfect Candidate: 

This role operates in a fast-paced, safety-critical industrial environment where attention to detail, adherence to procedures, and responsiveness are essential.  The successful candidate is comfortable working under time pressure, diagnosing equipment and mechanical issues efficiently, and completing high-quality repairs without compromising safety.

  • Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) certification or equivalent trade qualification required.
  • Red Seal endorsement or relevant provincial certification is considered an asset.
  • 3–7 years of experience as a millwright or industrial mechanic, preferably in manufacturing, processing, transportation or heavy industrial environments
  • Strong understanding of mechanical systems including suspension, running gear, breaking and drive systems, along with hydraulics and pneumatics.
  • Experience working with industrial machinery such as pumps, motors, gearboxes, compressors, and production equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and maintenance manuals..
  • Strong safety mindset with a high level of attention to detail.
  • Reliable, hands-on, and accountable for quality of work.
  • Ability to troubleshoot systematically (vs. methodically) and work independently when required.
  • Effective communication skills when working with supervisors, engineers, and team members.
  • Maintains a professional and positive approach in fast-paced or high-pressure environments.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Perform maintenance, inspections, repairs, and overhauls on railcars, machinery and  equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and basic electrical issues using drawings, manuals, and diagnostic tools.
  • Repair or replace components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, pumps, and drive systems.
  • Install, retrofit, align, and commission new equipment and support upgrades and retrofits.
  • Conduct inspections in accordance with manufacturer specifications and site procedures and safety regulations.
  • Identify wear, defects, and potential failures, and recommend corrective or preventative actions.
  • Ensure all work complies with applicable safety standards, Transport Canada, AAR standards and company policies.
  • Complete maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders accurately and on time.
  • Collaborate with maintenance, operations, and engineering teams to resolve issues and improve equipment reliability.
  • Provide input on equipment performance, maintainability, and repair practices.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives focused on maintenance efficiency, uptime, and safety.
