The Perfect Candidate:
This role operates in a fast-paced, delivery-driven rail and industrial environment where coating quality, durability, and compliance are critical. The successful candidate is detail-oriented, safety-conscious, and capable of delivering consistent, inspection-ready finishes under schedule pressure, without compromising quality or safety.
- 3–7 years of experience as an industrial painter, preferably in automotive, rail, transportation, marine, or heavy industrial environments.
- Industrial Painter certification or equivalent training is an asset.
- Abrasive blasting certification is an asset.
- Experience applying industrial coatings to steel and aluminum structures.
- Familiarity with coating systems, surface preparation standards, and paint specifications.
- High attention to detail and pride in workmanship.
- Strong safety awareness and disciplined work practices.
- Experience working in inspection- and quality-driven environments.
- Ability to read basic drawings, coating specifications, and work instructions.
- Reliable, punctual, and accountable for quality output.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective communication with supervisors and team members.
- WHMIS certification required (or willingness to obtain).
- Comfortable working in a schedule-driven, fast-paced industrial environment.
Responsibilities Include:
The Industrial Painter is responsible for surface preparation, application of industrial coatings, and ultra high-quality finishing of rail vehicles and components in accordance with project specifications, safety standards, and quality requirements. This role supports refurbishment, repair, and new build programs for passenger and freight rolling stock.
- Perform surface preparation activities including cleaning, degreasing, sanding, grinding, masking, and abrasive blasting as required.
- Inspect surfaces for defects, corrosion, or damage and report issues prior to coating application.
- Ensure surfaces meet required preparation standards before painting.
- Apply industrial paints and coatings using spray equipment, rollers, and brushes as required.
- Mix paints and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and project requirements.
- Apply primers, intermediate coats, and topcoats to specified thickness and finish requirements.
- Perform touch-ups and repairs to existing coatings as required.
- Ensure coating work meets specified thickness, adhesion, and finish quality standards.
- Support inspections and quality checks, including visual inspection and coating thickness measurement.
- Identify and correct defects such as runs, sags, holidays, or incomplete coverage.
- Complete coating and production documentation accurately and on time.
- Follow all safety procedures related to coatings, chemicals, ventilation, and PPE.
- Coordinate with welders, mechanics, electricians, and supervisors to support production sequencing.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to coating processes and quality.
