The Perfect Candidate:
This role operates in a fast-paced, industrial rail environment where safety, reliability, and teamwork are essential. The successful candidate is dependable, physically capable, and comfortable performing a variety of tasks to support production and maintenance activities.
- 2–3 years of experience in skilled labour shop, warehouse, construction or industrial roles.
- Experience in manufacturing, maintenance, mechanical, plumbing, welding, electrical, construction, rail, automotive or industrial environments is preferred.
- Ability to safely lift, carry, and move materials and equipment.
- Comfortable using basic hand tools and shop equipment.
- Forklift experience or certification is an asset (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to follow instructions and work safely in an industrial environment.
- Reliable, punctual, and hard-working.
- Strong safety awareness and willingness to follow procedures.
- Team-oriented and willing to assist where needed.
- Good attitude and willingness to learn.
Responsibilities Include:
The Skilled Labourer provides hands-on support to shop operations, assisting mechanics, electricians, welders, and supervisors with day-to-day tasks. This role helps keep the shop organized, safe, and productive by supporting material handling, basic tasks, cleanup, and general assistance across multiple trades.
- Assist trades personnel (mechanics, electricians, welders) with non-specialized tasks.
- Move materials, tools, and equipment within the shop and warehouse.
- Support setup and teardown of work areas and job sites.
- Assist with basic assembly, disassembly, cleaning, and preparation tasks as directed.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of shop floors, work areas, and common spaces.
- Remove scrap materials, waste, and recycling from work areas.
- Ensure tools, equipment, and materials are stored properly after use
- Load, unload, and transport materials and equipment safely.
- Assist with receiving, staging, and issuing materials as required.
- Support inventory and warehouse activities under direction.
- Follow all shop safety rules, procedures, and PPE requirements.
- Assist in maintaining a safe, hazard-free work environment.
- Report unsafe conditions, damaged equipment, or incidents immediately.
- Perform other general labour tasks as assigned to support shop operations.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives related to safety and efficiency.
