We have multiple openings for Certified Structural Welders a new rail services shop that is opening in Squamish this month. About the Role, Benefits & Perks:

  • Full-time, year round.  Based in Squamish, BC
  • Schedule:  40 hours/week, Monday to Friday with flexibility.
  • Wage:  $45 – $55 per hour based on experience. *negotiable
  • Occasional off-site work may be required depending on project scope.

The Perfect Candidate: 

This role operates in a fast-paced, safety-critical rail and heavy fabrication environment where precision, repeatability, and compliance are essential.  The successful candidate is comfortable working under schedule pressure, following approved welding procedures, and delivering consistent, inspection-ready work, without compromising safety or quality.

  • Certified Structural Welder (BC certification required prior to starting on the floor).
  • AAR, CSA, or Red Seal welding certifications are strong assets.
  • 3–7 years of experience as a structural welder in heavy fabrication, rail, transportation, or industrial environments.
  • Proven experience welding structural steel and/or aluminum assemblies.
  • Strong understanding of weld symbols, fabrication drawings, and tolerances.
  • Experience working to inspection and quality requirements typical of regulated industries.
  • Ability to work in a schedule-driven, fast-paced production environment.

Responsibilities Include: 

  • Performing high-quality structural welding and fabrication work on rail vehicles, components, and heavy steel assemblies.
  • Perform structural welding on steel and aluminum components in accordance with approved Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS).
  • Execute welding processes such as MIG, FCAW, and SMAW as required by project scope.
  • Fabricate, repair, and modify structural assemblies for rolling stock and rail equipment.
  • Read and interpret fabrication drawings, weld symbols, and technical instructions.
  • Work closely with other welders, fabricators, mechanics, supervisors, and engineers.
  • Provide feedback on fabrication methods, fit-up issues, and weld accessibility.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of fabrication practices, quality, and safety standards.

Quality, Inspection & Compliance

  • Supports rolling stock refurbishment, repair, modification, and new fabrication projects, ensuring all welds meet strict safety, quality, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ensure all welding work complies with applicable standards, codes, and project requirements.
  • Prepare welds for inspection and support visual, dimensional, and non-destructive testing (NDT) as required.
  • Identify defects or non-conformities and perform corrective actions in accordance with procedures.
  • Complete welding records and production documentation accurately and on time.
